Joined Honda in 1989. A longtime engine specialist, he worked on the design and development of Honda’s road car engines before moving into motorsport and CART. He then managed the Honda F1 V8 development project, being involved in the Mugen project back in 1997. He then had spells either in engine design or engine project management in Formula 1 between 2001-2006 and then again 2015 to 2017. The latter spell, however, saw him diagnosed with cancer, which he fully overcame but had to briefly step down due to illness.
